Summertime

"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur
of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time."
~ John Lubbock

"Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability."

A Garden Shed

It was just a weathered garden shed,
In the shadow of a tree,
With faded boards and sagging door,
But a wonderment to me.
Inside upon the wooden floor,
Were garden tools and things,
The smell of leaves when they are dry,
Such memories they do bring.
days when I was but a child,
We'd visit Uncle George,
And he would give me Blackjack Gum,
A friendship we would forge.
And just outside his garden shed,
Was a fish pond with a bridge,
I'd love to relive all those days,
Oh, the things I wouldn't give!
That time has passed, I'm older now,
But this one thing I know,
I'll cherish all those childhood days,
As my dark hair turns to snow.

When April Steps Aside For May

"When April steps aside for May,
Like diamonds all the rain-drops glisten;
Fresh violets open every day:
To some new bird each hour we listen."

Johnny-Jump-Ups

“Johnny-Jump-Up” can refer to violets or pansies
. A “Johnny Jump Up” is also a European wildflower
called Heartease. Heartease can also be used as an herb.

I found these Johnny Jump Ups growing wild on the
empty lot next door. They were free. How nice is that?

"Each leaf,
each blade of grass
vies for attention.
Even weeds
carry tiny blossoms
to astonish us."
